Annual Latin Food + Wine Festival Returns to DTLA

Latino Wineries from Napa and Baja California and Chefs from around the world that specialize in Latin Cuisine join forces in DTLA to create a unique and flavorful experience for a good cause.

On Friday July 15th, East LA Meets Napa Food and Wine Festival celebrates it’s 11th year. Don’t let the name fool you, the annual event has been hosted at Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles for the past 10 years. This year’s event will still be held in Downtown Los Angeles but they are switching things up and moving the location to Two California Plaza on South Grand Avenue in DTLA. Alta Med, California’s largest community health organization, is excited to feature Latino owned wineries and Latino-centric restaurants from all around the world, not just East L.A..

The Alta Med benefit raises money to provide Healthcare for Latinos, multi-ethnic and underserved communities in Southern California and communities across the state. This year’s event will showcase chefs and vintners from around the world. They will be participating alongside local, family-owned favorites throughout California as part of a “World Tour” theme. This unique theme will create a tasting journey that will bring together Californian and International homages to Latin Cuisine.

New and returning restaurants will offer guests an unforgettable experience that highlights the richness of Latin Cuisine and Culture. Participants will include chefs like the funny and talented Top Chef-Alum Katsuji Tanabe of MexiKosher, known for his creative, kosher take on Mexican cuisine. Also joining the ranks are Socorro Herrera of Los Feliz’s taco stand Yuca’s and Gilberto Cetina of Chichen Itza. Additional restaurant highlights include popular favorites Casa Oaxaca, Rocio’s Mexican Kitchen and Porto’s Bakery and Café.

Complementing the array of flavorful food will be tastings from members of MAVA the Mexican American Vintner Asssociation in Napa along with Baja-based Latino Vintners, highlighting their contributions to winemaking in both regions. Napa winemakers in attendance will include Rolando Herrera from Mi Sueno Winery and Lupe Maldonado from Maldonado Vineyards. Aliximia Vino Elemental, Baron Balche and Bodegas de Santo Tomas will be representing the Baja wine region. A curated selection of varietals from this up-and-coming wine region will provide guests with a unique glimpse into the ever evolving tastes from the peninsula.

Alta Med CEO Castulo de la Rocha had this to say about the event: “The growth of this event over the years continues to amaze me. (Two) California Plaza will be our largest venue yet, and we are excited to host more guests, more chefs and more vintners with the goal of raising money to fund essential programs at our health centers throughout the state.” To gain access to this fun and tasty event for a good cause, click here to purchase General Admission tickets.
