Just in time for the warmer weather and outdoor boozy brunches, DTLA now has its own neighborhood walk-up bar. Prank Bar, which held its grand opening on April 1st, is located on the corner of Hope and 11th. You can’t miss it – it’s visible from just about every angle from a couple blocks away. Its open-air design allows hungry or thirsty pedestrians easy access to their patio and bar. It also makes it much easier for bar patrons to people-watch while they drink without those pesky walls getting in the way.
Prank’s whimsical name is no indication, however, of the quality of its food and drink. The menu is centered on healthy choices and features vegan and vegetarian friendly dishes that would please even the most carnivorous eaters. But meat eaters can part take in Prank’s “pranky meals” too. The burgers and sandwiches are the highlight of the menu.
All menu items are paired with a drink. Choose from any of their signature cocktails, beer, wine, or their house kombucha (which hopefully will be sold by the bottle soon – it’s that good). They also have a special line of cocktails containing cannabis common terpenes. These cocktails, while being tasty, are mixed with terpenes (the essential oil from a cannabis plant), which give these cocktails the anti-inflammatory and other medicinal properties of cannabis without any psychotropic effects. It’s hangover prevention in a cocktail.
Prank’s co-founder, Dave Whitton, knows a thing or two about drinks. He’s been in the cocktail industry for over 18 years and is known for opening Villain’s Tavern in DTLA’s Arts District. Whitton, along with his siblings Johnny and Jaime, partnered with Tony Frere and Greg Schumann to create Prank, and to fill the need for a casual neighborhood food, drink, and events hub.
With a beautiful walk-up bar, casual vibe, great food, unique drinks, and fun events every weekend, Prank is set to be DTLA’s new breezy summertime hot spot.
Prank Bar is located at 1100 South Hope Street, Los Angeles, CA 90015.
