From newer Downtown additions, to long-standing favorites, the following are our picks for five Happy Hours to check out!
Located on Broadway at the end of the block from Grand Central Market, this 70’s-inspired bar is a straightforward locale for a no frills, after-work hangout. The small, cozy, basement like interior is meticulously decorated with mid-century furnishings, from the wood-paneled bar, to the quirky wallpaper. The happy hour at Bernadette’s is solid. Every day from 4-7p.m. they offer $1 off all drafts, $2 off micheladas and house wines, and an $11 beer and sandwich combo.
It’s almost impossible to not include this iconic L.A. bar on any nightlife list. For over a century, Cole’s has been a cool, dark bar that has delighted Angelenos with their tasty sandwiches and classic drink selection. Most famous for their French Dip, of which they claim to be the originators of, this bar offers bargain deals for their iconic fare. On weekdays from 3-7 p.m. and all day on Tuesday, Cole’s offers specials on snacks and sandwiches, including $6 French Dip sliders, $9 Manhattans, $6 craft beers, Old Fashioneds and well drinks. Located on Bunker Hill in Downtown Los Angeles, walking distance from MOCA, Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Broad Museum, Pez Cantina is a sustainable Coastal Mexican-style restaurant and bar serving the freshest sea-to-land dishes in an oasis-type atmosphere. More than just a corporate hang-out, they offer fresh food , and given the area, it’s all pretty affordable. There’s also an excellent back patio and a daily Happy Hour from 3:30-7:00 pm with $3 oysters and $8 craft beer, house cocktails, and select menu items that go far above your typical bar food options.
Brack Shop Tavern
Built for sports fans with a refined drinking palette, Brack Shop Tavern serves elevated game-day bites, in a cool, dark atmosphere. With ample TVs and a full game room with vintage arcade games and ping-pong, Brack Shop is unlike the average sports bar. Boasting a vast craft beer list and a classic cocktail program, it’s the perfect place so share a conversation with a friend or enjoy watching your favorite team play. Happy hour includes $5 beer specials, and cocktails running from $6-$9. Food special include mole tacos, falafel sliders, and roasted pork empanadas. Grab yourself some discounted drinks and food all day Mondays and Tuesdays, and Wednesdays – Sundays from 3-7 p.m.
This upscale Mexican eatery has seen its popularity rise since an appearance from Anthony Bourdain on an episode of Parts Unknown. Chef Ray Garcia has crafted one the most respected and distinct menus in Downtown, with bold yet refined flavors accenting each dish. Preparations demonstrate elements of long-established tradition, while finished dishes are showcased with modern appeal. Luckily, the happy hour menu at Broken Spanish offers delight at a price anyone can enjoy. Rabbit albondigas (meatballs,) lentil nopal tostadas, and fresh oysters are the bites available, while $5 beer, $4 tequila or mezcal and $6 wine is offered to help you wash down your meal. Happy hour runs Monday – Friday from 5:30-7:00pm.
